Potage to Stone Farm is a small, family-run farm in Osawatomie, Kansas. We raise pasture-based meat birds, keep laying hens and ducks for eggs, and grow a wide variety of garden plants from seed.
The name “Potage to Stone” is our take on “soup to nuts”—a reflection of our homesteading approach and the many things we produce. It also nods to the history of Osawatomie, whose name comes from the Osage and Potawatomi tribes; “Potage” blends those names in reverse.
Our farm is run by our family—Jim and Spring, along with Jim’s sister Jenni—with help from family and friends. Jim and his sisters were raised on a small farm in southern Iowa, and we carry that hands-on mindset into everything we do.
We aim for a back-to-basics approach, using methods like rotational grazing and focusing on less processed inputs, while also making use of modern tools where they make sense. We’re less concerned with labels and more focused on producing real food in a way that works for our land and our animals.
We focus on feeding our household first and sharing what we can with our community. That includes selling directly from the farm, as well as contributing produce to a local food pantry and plants to a community garden that helps support it.
