Hi. I'm Melissa and have been married for 24 yrs. We have 3 daughters and a son. Originally from Murrieta, CA, we moved out to Nuevo, CA in 2019 for the space. During the pandemic, I wanted to use our space to find ways to be self sustained, even if it was something as little as growing our own herbs or raising chickens for eggs. I started out with 2 hens that my neighbor gave me, enough to give my family eggs. She did warn me that chickens are addicting and I assured her I would not have more then the two...37 chickens later. I started to do research and learned that not only are there eggs that have different colors but there are a wide variety of chickens with unique plumage and character traits which sparked my interest and now has turned into my hobby. I strive to have healthy happy chickens so that we can have healthy tasty eggs. I continue to educate myself on ways to keep my chickens healthy as well as making sure that when I purchase new chicks, that they are heat tolerant and thrive in a free range environment. My chickens are confined to an enclosed coop at night but have access to 3/4 of an acre during the day and a small chicken garden which I'm still adding to. They love to hang out with our goats and occasionally you will see a chicken riding on the back of one.
